英検 Eiken
お久しぶりです〜。夏休み長かったのに、現地校の宿題をずつとやっていて、あんまり書く時間がなかったです…
まぁ、この夏休みのビッグニュースナンバー１は！！
英検一級を夏休みの間に受けに行きました〜！
テスト自体はちょっと難しいなぁ、という感じで…
やっぱり、文化問題が難しかったかなぁ〜…なんか、電車の話されても、アメリカでは乗る機会が一生のうちでほんの数回しかないため、ちょっとわからない状況でした。しかも、英語喋ってるのに、性格がアメリカ人っぽく無い…
「週末、仕事のプロジェクトがあるので、手伝ってくれませんか？」という会話の問題では、やけに遠まわしに聞こうとするなど…アメリカ育ちの自分はもうストレートに、
「週末手伝ってね！ＯＫ？」みたいなかんじで話が進んでしまいます…
筆記試験はそういう感じで、まぁまぁ大丈夫なほうでした。
そこで、二次試験。
最初に自分の自己紹介。どこそこの学校に行ってて、親はどこそこから来てて、弟は自閉症、猫飼ってて大好き、などなど…そして、メインのスピーチ問題…
「英検一級を受ける人間の平均年齢って何歳ですか？」と真剣に聞きたくなるほど難しい問題を渡された。
「二分で答えたい問題とその答えのスピーチを作ってね。」
無理がある。
アメリカでもスピーチを作れって言っても数日はくれるし…
いやいや、なんですか、
「飛行機は経済的効果ですか？それとも、自然破壊の一種ですか？」とか…
「人間の知能は平等に計れますか？」
知らない。
と、答えたいところだが…それは、絶対に落とされるため、人間知能の話に対して一分間のスピーチをやってみた。人間の知能はどーとか、なるべく、自閉症の話を入れてみた。自閉症はいろんなすばらしい能力があるとか…そして、最後にいろいろ質問されました…
自閉症の話が良かったのか、人間知能の話から自閉症の話へと移ったのがよかったのか。
それで終わり〜…で、教室を後にしました。
ということで、英検一級を受けに行った報告です…
Long time no see (or write in this case because I don't get to see you guys!). My summer was a long one, but with so much homework from school I just couldn't some time get something written down...
Well, I've got some big news!
I went to go take the Eiken exam this summer!
The exam was hard to tell you the truth...
The culture questions were just confusing at times... The question would ask about some train-traveling, but I, being born and taken care of in America, rarely ever had the chance to get on a train and see how it was like. Also, the people were speaking English, but they didn't seem like Americans that I know... (Not to get onto some kind of racial thing!) Just, someone would ask, "Can you help me over the weekend?" in a very offhanded way. Usually, with myself, I will get the person and say, "I'll see you over the weekend to work on that project! OK?" and get on with different conversations.
Well, the writing part was all right.
Now, the second part of the exam,
First is the personal questions andall. Had to talk about where my family came, my brother is autistic, I have and love cats... And then the main speech question...
The questions just made me think, "What is the average age on people taking the first level test?" They were so hard...
"Please choose which question you want to answer, and make a speech in two minutes."
That's kind of hard.
My school gives me at least a few days to get ready if we have to give a speech.
And anyways, what's up with these questions? "Is the airplane an economic boon or an environmental threat?" and the other, "Is it possble to equally test the IQ of humans?"
I don't know.
Is what my answer was in my head, but iknew if I said that, I would be thrown out in a blink of an eye, so I tried the IQ question. Tried talking about stuff and especially autism and how they have special gifted powers that we don't have.
And then the last question and answer part....
Instead of talking about IQs, we began to talk about autism...
So it ended and I left and that's how the whole exam was...
